New Black Bear Sighting |

On July 1, 2008 the Newton Police Department received several reports of a black bear in the vicinity of South Main Street and Peaslee Crossing Road. The following is information/suggestions regarding black bears:
Take in your bird feeders between April 1st and December 1st. Clean up any spilled bird seed.
Keep the grease traps on your gas grills clean.
Do not leave dog food or cat food outdoors. Do not leave trash outdoors.
If you encounter a black bear in your yard, do not turn and run. Maintain visual contact and back away slowly. If you are inside and you see a black bear in your yard, bang pots and pans or make loud noise to deter it from hanging around. Bring pets inside.
If you have any questions regarding black bears, contact the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department at 223-6832. |
